Jazz Fest Line-up 2012

The JazzFest lineup has been announced!  You can view it here.  And here’s a nifty video summary of Jazz Fest found on their website:

Jazz Fest Music Video

Actually, the video is a little touristy, but whatevs . . .

I’m particularly excited to see national acts such as Bon Iver, Al Green, Feist, and Carolina Chocolate Drops, and local acts such as Brass Bed, Givers, Big Freedia, Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, and the Pine Leaf Boys.

In fact, here’s a sample of some of my favorite local artists.  I should mention that I have too many favorites to feature here, but here’s a few:

Personally, Jazz Fest is traditionally a hard time of year for me because I’m usually in finals and having no fun.  But this year, I”ll be footloose and fancy free and have the opportunity to sweat (dance) it out with the rest of the masses.

Only one problem.  When I am at leisure to attend Jazz Fest, I’ve never gone because it conflicts with another greatFREE festival in Lafayette, LA, namely  – Festivale International de Louisiane.  “Festival,” as it is affectionately, called is a festival celebrating francophone culture.  Bands from around the world, such as Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, come to Lafayette attracting as many as 300,000 visitors and locals alike.  And the food is incredible!

I’ll probably write A LOT more about this in the next few months, but for now, check out this video summary of Festival which shows a sampling of the types of musicians that will descend upon Lafayette in late April this year.
